A road closure remains in place between Moss Street and Hunter Street
A man in his 50s was rushed to hospital with a serious head injury after being hit by a car in Liverpool city centre. Emergency services were called at around 7.05am today to reports a black Mercedes had been involved in a collision with the man at the junction of St Anne Street and Hunter Street.
Islington was blocked between Moss Street and Hunter Street, with all approaches to the junction closed as Merseyside Police attended the scene. The man was taken to hospital with a head injury, where he remains in a serious but stable condition. The driver of the car stopped at the scene.
A road closure remains in place as officers carry out the initial stages of the investigation. and motorists are advised to avoid the junction and find an alternative route, Merseyside Police said.

Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson, the lead investigating officer from the MATRIX Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “We have launched an investigation into the circumstances of this collision and would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident to please come forward.
“Similarly, if you were driving through the area at the time, please review your dashcam footage in case you captured anything that could assist our inquiries.
“A road closure remains in place as officers carry out the initial stages of the investigation. This is causing congestion and motorists are advised to find an alternative route. Thank you for your patience.”
