When bins in Sefton will be collected over Christmas period
Christmas is a very busy time of year and the accumulation of gifts, packaging, food and drink does generate a lot of rubbish. It is important to know when you can put your bins out over the Christmas period and get rid of some of that wrapping paper and those cardboard boxes which tend to pile up and suddenly start cluttering your house.
For many people in Sefton, their bin collections usually fall on the Monday which would be December 23 this year. However, as the timetables alter for the festive period, a new set of dates have been released and many of the councils in Merseyside have brought their dates forward.
Sefton Council have also issued some guidance on Household Waste Recycling Centres which will be open from 8am to 5pm every day apart from Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day. Residents can use these facilities for the free disposal of items and waste including paper, card and plastics as well as non-recyclables.

Sefton’s Waste Recycling Centres are:
- South Sefton Household Waste Recycling Centre, Irlam Road, Bootle L20 4AE
- Sefton Meadows Household Waste Recycling Centre, Sefton Lane, Maghull L31 8BX
- Southport Household Waste Recycling Centre, Foul Lane, Southport PR9 7RG
- Formby Household Waste Recycling Centre, Altcar Road, Formby L37 8DL
The final collection date for bulky items before Christmas will be Friday 20th December 2024 and will restart on Thursday 2nd January 2025. The final weekly clinical waste collection before Christmas will be on Friday 20th December 2024 and will restart on Thursday 2nd January 2025. The ad-hoc clinical waste collection has a final collection date before Christmas of Friday 20th December 2024 and restart on Thursday 2nd January 2025.
