Julia was told she was going to watch Paddington at the Plaza cinema
A woman had the surprise of her life when she arrived at the cinema for what she believed to be a showing of Paddington. Wojciech Rosada, also known as Ste, told his girlfriend, Julia, to buy a dress and do her makeup as he would be “surprising her” on their two year anniversary.
Wojciech, 32, who is originally from Poland but lives in Kirkby, told Julia, 29, they were going to see a film at the Plaza Cinema in Waterloo. Little did she know he had been working with staff at the Plaza to pull off a surprise engagement with a private screening.
The couple met after matching on Tinder in 2022, and are now expecting their first child. Wojciech told the ECHO: “I had an idea to do it this way since I can remember. I had this idea that, instead of a movie, it would be lovely to make a private cinema movie where there are pictures and videos from our two years together.

“It was very hard to hide it. I told her I had a surprise for our anniversary, but she didn’t know I was going to propose. I didn’t tell her anything, and then we walked into the cinema and the room was empty, and she was saying, ‘why isn’t there anyone here?'”
A 30-minute montage of pictures and videos from Wojciech and Juila’s two year relationship was played on the big screen. He said Julia immediately started to “cry like a baby” as she realised what was about to happen.
He added: “Julia was crying like a baby. She had to go to the toilets for a few minutes to get herself ready again because she was all over the place!”
After they watched the 30 minute montage, Wojciech blindfolded Julia, and led her outside under the canopy, where the message ‘Will you marry me?’ was displayed on the screen above. The 32-year-old said: “When I proposed to her she was very shocked and was crying from joy. I felt excited but also calm knowing that I finally found a woman that I can proudly propose to.”
Wojciech said he had asked “every cinema in Liverpool” if they would carry out his wishes, but he was quoted thousands for a 20-30 minute film. He eventually got in touch with general manager Martin Fol at the Plaza, who was more than happy to help him, free of charge.
“With Julia being pregnant we are quite tight with money at the moment. I couldn’t afford to pay what they were asking. But Martin was amazing. He didn’t charge me a penny.”
The couple, who run an airbnb business together, plan to get married at The Palace at Osowa Sien, near to Julia’s hometown in Poland. Wojciech said the relationship was “meant to be”. He added: “We match perfectly. I’m so glad we found each other because we not only match for life, we match for a business very well. I have a customer service background while Julia is an amazing artist.”
