Fresh reports claim Mohamed Salah is on the brink of signing a new Liverpool contract
The future of Mohamed Salah remains in the spotlight as the Liverpool star continues to shine for Arne Slot’s side this season. Liverpool were forced to have a weekend without Premier League football after Storm Darragh claimed their Merseyside derby with Everton.
The postponement allowed the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City the opportunity to close the gap on the Reds lead at the top of the league.
A lack of match action allowed for the ongoing speculation over the contracts of Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah to quieten slightly. The Liverpool trio have been standouts so far this season with the Reds surprising many to steal a march in the title race.

Salah’s future has sparked a continuous debate after the 32-year-old made a flying start to the campaign, with 13 goals and eight assists in the Premier League. The ECHO has taken a look at the recent reports surrounding his future.
Liverpool on the verge of Mohamed Salah ‘agreement’
According to the Mirror, Salah is on the brink of signing a new two-year deal at Anfield. It has been claimed that a compromise deal has been agreed with the club’s owners to end all doubts over his future.
In the report, they suggest that the Egyptian’s agent had told the Liverpool hierarchy that they wanted a three-year deal, while the club were only prepared to offer a one-year extension.
Salah’s influence increased this week after finding the target in their win over City and scored twice to take Liverpool to within minutes of another comeback win, at Newcastle United, but a mistake from Caoimhin Kelleher forced them to settle for a point in the North East.
The Mirror has reported that Salah will sign a lucrative two-year extension, barring any last-minute hiccups.
‘Congratulations on your new contract’
Liverpool supporters were sent into a frenzy in the days after their win over City when former Egypt defender Haytham Farouk sent a message to the Reds hero.
In a tweet on X, the translation roughly said: “Congratulations on renewing your contract with the number you like and the period you want.
“The Egyptian king rules with his own judgments.”
It remains unclear the real intention of the social media post, or whether he was sending a message of support to a fellow Egyptian. A user suggested that the post was in relation to Salah’s performance and how it could force Liverpool to extend his deal that would satisfy the forward.
Rare interview sparks Salah future concern
Following his match-winning double to overcome Southampton, Salah spoke in a rare interview expressing his disappointment that he hadn’t received an offer from Liverpool.
The Egyptian conceded that he was “probably more out than in”. He said: “Well, we are almost in December and I haven’t received any offers yet to stay in the club, [so] I’m probably more out than in.
“You know I have been in the club for many years. There is no club like this. But in the end it is not in my hands. As I said before, it is December and I haven’t received anything yet about my future.
“I’m very professional. Everybody can see my work ethic. I’m just trying to enjoy my football and I will play at the top level as long as possible.
“I’m just doing my best because this is who I am and I try to give it all for myself and for the club. We will see what happens next.”
Salah ‘would accept one-year’ Liverpool contract
A report from The Athletic claimed that Salah would accept a one-year extension at Anfield but had grown increasingly “exasperated” at the handling of his future.
It was claimed that the Egyptian was waiting for Liverpool to reveal its position in relation to a deal and the length of the extension.
Salah will be able to enter negotiations over pre-contract agreements from January and has already been linked with a move away.
Paris Saint-Germain were said to have entered talks with Salah, in a report from France published in the aftermath of Liverpool’s win over Man City.
Slot: Difficult to predict long-term future
The Liverpool head coach was forced to elaborate on his post-match comments after the draw at Newcastle as the mask slipped slightly when he admitted he ‘hopes and expects Salah can continue for a long time’ at Anfield.
The Dutchman has, not only, been thrust into a difficult position following in Jurgen Klopp’s footsteps but inheriting three contract sagas for three key players.
Speaking to Amazon Prime on Wednesday, he said: “Every time we need Mo Salah he scores a goal.
“We are hoping and expecting he can continue this for a long time. He was outstanding in the second half, he did many special things for us.”
But he was forced to expand further in his post-match press conference. Slot explained: “It’s difficult for me to predict the long-term future but I can predict that he is in a very good place at the moment and in a very good team that provides him with good opportunities and he is able to do special things.
“What makes him even more special is that in the first 50 minutes you thought that he’s not playing his best game today and then comes up with 45 minutes of an assist, two goals, hitting the bar and being a constant threat.
“That’s something not many players can do if they played the first 50 minutes like he did. That’s also what makes him special. If you just look at the goals his finishing is so clinical and shows he is a special player. But that’s what we all know.”
PSG chief loves Liverpool star amid ‘talks’
PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has been forced to speak out against the ‘untrue’ rumours surrounding Salah and a possible move to Paris.
However, he admitted that he ‘loves’ the Egyptian and is proud of what he has achieved at Liverpool.
His comments came after speculation over talks with the 32-year-old amid reports PSG were in the hunt. He said:”It’s not true. He’s a fantastic and amazing player, but we’ve never considered him, to be honest.
“We know every club would love to have him, but this rumour about us is simply not true.
“I love Salah, also because he came from our part of the world,” Al-Khelaifi said in another interview. “I am very proud of him, honestly, for what he’s done in the Premier League with Liverpool.
“And I have big respect for him and for Liverpool. So we never talked to him. Respect Liverpool and respect the player – he has a contract with Liverpool and we never talked to him.”
