Dean made a controversial comment in the Bush Telegraph
Coleen Rooney recalled how her husband Wayne proposed to her in tonight’s episode of I’m a Celebrity, prompting a remark from Dean McCullough, who was eliminated from the ITV show this evening. Dean managed 16 days in the jungle.
Coleen met Wayne at school and the childhood sweethearts tied the knot in a fairytale Italian wedding in June 2008. The subject of Wayne’s marriage proposal came up after the letters from home challenge.
Celebrities were given an opportunity to win their letters from home by identifying a secret sentimental phrase from their loved ones, that would be mouthed to them by their chosen fellow camp mate.

Coleen correctly guessed her secret sentimental phrase was ‘petrol station’. Last year, Coleen revealed Wayne popped the question in a petrol station when the two were just 17. He had a romantic proposal lined up but it didn’t go quite to plan. The pair were on their way to a Chinese restaurant where Wayne was going to get down on one knee, but Coleen changed her mind.
After the letters from home challenge, the Rev Richard Coles quizzed Coleen on Wayne’s proposal. Coleen told him: “I knew it was going to happen but I definitely didn’t know it was going to be in a petrol station, but I’m glad we didn’t do it in a restaurant to be honest with you. We were only young, so we went back and had corned beef hash instead!” Speaking in the Bush Telegraph, Dean said: “I’m not being funny but I would have run a mile!”
Coleen talked in detail about the marriage proposal in her book, which was released last year. She said: “By the time he proposed, I’d had an inkling it might happen – not the actual date and time but I thought it might be on the cards. Wayne was never very good at keeping things under wraps or containing his excitement about something. He’d already told me he was having a ring made especially for me; I just wasn’t sure it was an engagement ring.
“On the night it happened, 1 October 2023, he’d planned a date at a Chinese restaurant – nothing special, it was just local to where we lived. On the way there in the car, we started bickering over something – I can’t even remember what now, but whatever it was must have put me in a bit of a mood.
“As we pulled in at a petrol station, I folded my arms and sighed. ‘Do you know? I don’t really feel like going for something to eat now.’ ‘No neither do I,’ Wayne said, turning off the car engine. ‘Only, the thing is, while we were there, I was going to do this…'”
Coleen then went on to describe how Wayne pulled out an engagement ring. However, he was unable to get down on one knee due to the two of them being sat in the car.
