Queues outside Clayton Square for a Black Friday giveaway by Scouse fashion brand Tribal Society
Hundreds of people queued for hours in Liverpool city centre this morning for a unique Black Friday deal. People started gathering by a pop-up container outside Clayton Square shopping centre and by 10am the queue stretched all the way down to the entrance of the Radio City tower.
Men’s fashion brand Tribal Society organised this. The business, which was founded in Liverpool, aims to produce clothes classed as “affordable luxury”, namely jeans but also a range of hoodies, t-shirts and accessories too.
Adam Cummings, from Old Swan, founded the business in 2018 after feeling there was a lack of stylish but reasonably priced jeans and t-shirts for men. Since then, it has become a popular fixture in The Metquarter as well as its Chester store and online.

The business is also known for giving its stock away for free in viral giveaways. One of these was hosted in Williamson Square last November for Black Friday 2023 and saw hundreds of customers queuing to get their hands on free items of clothing.
The brand has done it again for this year’s Black Friday, with coats, t-shirts, jackets, socks, fragrances and some online items being given away for free from 10am, limited to one item per person. Those customers who are signed up to its mailing list were told about the location of the giveaway yesterday.
Sisters Sophie and Mary Miller, 22 and 20 from Wavertree, had been queuing for an hour. Explaining why, Sophie told the ECHO: “My fella wants a coat for Christmas. He sent me the email with the location and I’ve come down for him because he’s at work. I’ve shopped there before for my boyfriend, he likes the aftershaves and the coats.
“We thought the queue would be bigger. The pop up for Sister and Seekers was a lot bigger. We were pleasantly surprised, to be honest. People have been coming here since 4am.”
Maria Muldon, 62, had travelled down from Dovecot with her 11 year-old nephew Max after he alerted her to the giveaway. Maria said: “We got on the bus and have been here since 9am. I don’t know much about Tribal Society but Max does. It’s nice to see a Liverpool business doing well.
Laughing, she added: “He asked if we could get down here for 7am and I told him no. He’s on an inset day from school so he’s making good use of it.”
Meanwhile Daniel Connolly, 20, from Garston, had been waiting for 40 minutes. He said: “I’m here to grab myself a little something for Christmas. I’ve been in the store a couple of times. They’ve got some decent bits in there. I was expecting something big today.”
Owner Adam was there himself along with other members of staff. Speaking shortly before the giveaway started at 10am, he said: “People have been queuing since 4am. I was surprised at the amount of people who turned up when we did it last year for the first time. This year, I wouldn’t say I was expecting it, but it wasn’t as much of a shock.”
When asked why Tribal Society does these giveaways, he added: “We just think that, if you shop with somebody all year round, you should be rewarded somehow. So for Black Friday, we want to do something a little bit different, not only to stand out from the crowd, but actually reward our community who are with us and shop with us all year round.
“We started it last year and it was a massive success. So we thought, why not do it again and go bigger and better?”
