This Morning: Prue Leith shares avocado preparation hack
Prue Leith’s appearance on This Morning turned into quite the spectacle as a kitchen trick didn’t go as expected. The celebrated Great British Bake Off judge was there to chat with Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary about her latest book, which is all about simplifying cooking with clever tips and tricks, on 29 November.
Alison couldn’t wait to get a sneak peek at Prue’s culinary shortcuts, questioning eagerly: “So, can you show us some hacks? What hacks have you got?” With that invitation, Prue, aged 84, elected to demonstrate her effortless way of preparing an avocado to Alison and Dermot.

While explaining the process, Prue warned: “This is the one that us really important to know because it’s hard to get a stone out of an avocado without anything happening.” She highlighted the peril of ‘avocado hand,’ a common injury seen in A&E departments from mishandled avocados, as she displayed a safer technique using a knife to dislodge the stone with a firm hit.
The baking guru continued by revealing a nifty method to slice up the fruit for serving. Pushing half an avocado through a grill rack so it would drop neatly onto a plate, things took an unexpected turn when her avocado got squashed instead, reports the Mirror.
Admitting to the blunder, Prue conceded, “It’s a bit of a mess,” while Alison erupted into laughter. This Morning’s own presenter couldn’t resist commenting on the flat outcome: “It’s flat like a pancake! Like a green pancake!” Even Prue had to chuckle at the outcome, admitting: “It’s not exactly beautiful is it.”
It appears Prue totally threw Dermot for a loop when, just days ago, he revealed there’s “unfinished business” with the GBBO luminary. The revelation emerged after the ITV presenter disclosed that Prue’s stinging comment had ruffled his feathers, occurring back when he snagged one of Bake Off’s coveted ‘Hollywood Handshakes’ from Paul Hollywood.
Dermot reminisced about feeling a surge of pride over his meticulously crafted bakes until Prue delivered her blunt assessment. Reportedly, she told Dermot she “wouldn’t have given him a handshake” for his efforts, a remark that prompted the This Morning presenter to declare the score remains unsettled between them.
Sharing his experience with fellow presenter Cat Deeley on 28 November, Dermot recounted, “When I did Bake Off last year, I got a Hollywood handshake for my ice buns,” and continued, “It was an absolute dream. Very happy, right? Prue Leith came up straight away and went, ‘I wouldn’t have given you a handshake for that.’ In other words, we’ve got unfinished business tomorrow! “.
