People will have good reason to visit the hidden treasure this weekend
Aigburth’s Sudley House is hosting a festive artisan market this weekend. The beautiful Victorian merchant house invites shoppers to peruse a large array of hand-made wares on Saturday, November 30, from 10am.
Sudley Handmade will see 21 makers and designers take over the property. Visitors will have the chance to discover unique gifts while exploring rooms decked in Victorian-style Christmas decorations.
There will be a selection of fresh food and drink including hot chocolate and minced pies available from the house’s on-site café. For those seeking an even more magical experience, the mansion will step back in time for A Sudley Victorian Christmas on December 7 and 8.

Guests will be treated to a complete Christmas takeover including traditional carol singers, children’s crafts, and storytelling. The event is suitable for all ages, including adults who wish to join the festivities.

Sudley House was built in 1821 by Liverpool corn merchant Nicholas Robinson and owned by the Holts family. They were known philanthropists with a special interest in education and public health.
The paintings at Sudley now form the only surviving, intact collection of artworks once owned by a merchant family. When Emma Holt died in 1944, she bequeathed Sudley House and Estate, along with the artwork the family had collected, to the people of Liverpool.
Since the 1990s, National Museums Liverpool have been gradually returning the downstairs rooms to the style in which they were decorated and furnished when the Holts lived in the house. Read more on Sudley House’s history here.
