The first events kicks off tomorrow night
Three global artists will takeover the M&S Bank Arena to celebrate Liverpool’s status as the world’s first ‘UN Accelerator City’ for climate action. The event is known as ‘Act 1.5’ and kicks off tomorrow, November 28 -30.
In September, Act 1.5 hosted their first “large-scale climate action accelerator” in Bristol that sought to reimagine how music events can be staged. The all-day outdoor event, headlined by Massive Attack, delivered an unprecedented network of decarbonisation methods and was the first practical phase of work designed with scientists from the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research.
Act 1.5 will test a range of measures that reduce the level of carbon emissions and air pollution that would usually be produced at an event of this scale. These include an entire event site powered by 100% renewable energy, a meat-free arena, and ending the show before 10pm to allow fans to travel home via public transport

Rock band IDLEs will launch the event’s opening night on November 28. They’ll be followed by trip-hop collective Massive Attack on November 29, with disco legends Nile Rodgers and CHIC closing on November 30.
Massive Attack’s Robert Del Naja said: “Our recent Bristol show demonstrated beyond question that major live music events can be Paris 1.5 compatible, and that audiences will embrace change enthusiastically. The vast scope of work in Liverpool and UN recognition means we can now concentrate more dynamic pilots and experiments to rapidly phase out fossil fuels.
“This idea and this insistence are not going back in any box. We’re delighted to see artists like Coldplay testing elements like localised ticket pre-sales as recommended in the Tyndall Centre Paris 1.5 decarbonisation road map and encourage other artists to do so freely. The talking stage is over, it’s time to act.”
