The professional dancer said it was “important to recognise the little wins”
Strictly Come Dancing’s Amy Dowden has issued a positive health update as she continues her road to recovery. The Welsh dancer was forced to pull of this year’s race for the glitterball after she suffered a foot injury.
It is the latest setback the dancer has suffered in a tough few years. The dancer missed out on last year’s edition of Strictly as she was diagnosed with breast cancer in May 2023. She underwent a mastectomy and fertility treatment.
Amy regularly keeps fans updated on her health journey and revealed she went for an MRI scan yesterday. The 34-year-old was proud as she revealed she achieved an important milestone.
She told her followers on Instagram: “[Yesterday] I had an MRI and you know I’m so proud of myself. First MRI where I wasn’t anxious and triggered (since cancer every scan, every test my heart races).

She added: “I actually fell asleep during it. I’m sharing this to help show the truth behind the smiles and behind what a post cancer diagnosis looks like. Today was a little win for me and it’s important to recognise little wins.”
Amy has been replaced on this season of Strictly by her co-star, Lauren Oakley. Lauren has continued where Amy left off with JB Gill with a series of incredible performances.
Amy was in attendance on Saturday’s episode to show support for Lauren and JB. The two sailed to the quarter final stage with an incredible Charleston and their performance in the Samba-thon took them to the top of the leaderboard.
Amy congratulated the two in a post shared after the episode. She said: “So PROUD of you @jbgill. Would do anything in the world to be out there on the floor with you but you are shining and everyone is seeing your talent! Thank you @laurenmayoakley”
Lauren took to the comments and said: “Love you!” JB added: “Soooo good to see you! Thank you for your support always.” Amy took to took to Instagram earlier this year to reflect on her health battle a year on from her cancer diagnosis.
She said in May: “These past few weeks and especially days I’ve constantly been thinking this time last year I was having this test, or this appointment.
“A year ago today it was confirmed what we thought it was but it became reality and my life changed forever when the Dr said we are sorry Amy it’s cancer.”
