A huge fire will rip through a house on the cobbles next year
Corrie fans are sure they’ve sussed out the identity of the person behind the devastating Platt household blaze – and it’s a surprising suspect at that.
In 2023, Weatherfield will be shaken to its core by the dramatic events of a house fire. Locals living near the set were given a heads-up about a major fire stunt being filmed at present.
Residents were advised to brace for loud bangs and convincing fire effects, but reassured there was no real danger. Additionally, the advisory highlighted that a simulation of a house fire involving an explosion would take place.
An insider disclosed to Metro: “The early part of the year is going to kick off the new era of Corrie with a bang pretty literally and one of the show’s core families are right at the heart of the fire storyline. With a new boss at the helm, the show isn’t pulling any punches and it’s fair to say some fan-favourite lives are on the line.”

Adding fuel to the speculative fire, several actors have posted numerous candid shots from filming sessions after dark last week. Bethany Platt actor Lucy Fallon shared a chilly moment with fellow performers Paddy Bever, who takes on the role of Max Turner, and Julia Goulding, who stars as Shona Platt, all bundled up in cosy dry robes to beat the cold.
Sally Carman-Duttine, who plays Abi Webster, sparked speculation after posting a behind-the-scenes photo on set featuring heat patches and body warmers with the caption “Night shoots”.
This has led fans to believe they’ve sussed out the perpetrator of an upcoming fire in the show. Many Corrie enthusiasts suspect Mason Radcliffe’s (Luca Toolan) menacing brothers, Matty and Logan Radcliffe (Seamus McGoff and Harry Lowbridge), might be responsible.
However, some viewers are pointing fingers at another character entirely. On a Coronation Street Facebook fan forum, theories are flying about David Platt (Jack P Shephard) being the one to watch. His anger was quite evident when Gail listed their house for sale months ago.
Desperation peaked for David when he nicked a hefty sum of illicit money from villain Harvey Gaskell (Will Mellor). Some believe this escalation could lead David to deliberately burn down his home in an insurance fraud ploy.
One spectator said: “I think the house fire will take place in the Platts house and that David will start the fire! ” Another added: “He’s doing it so Gail gets the insurance to rebuild it.”
Meanwhile, a third mused: “Might be an insurance job to get a payout hmm.” The debate doesn’t end there; other supporters hypothesise that this could be retaliation from Harvey’s crew. As one shared: “I think it will be an insurance job, or word gets to Damian that David stole the money and as punishment he gets someone to petrol bomb it.” Echoing this sentiment, another surmised: “I think it’s from the men in prison but Mason’s brothers get the blame.”
