Subzero conditions are expected to continue as freezing weather has arrived in Merseyside
The Met Office has issued a weather warning as freezing conditions continue to hit Merseyside. Temperatures have plummeted in the region this week with subzero conditions causing travel disruption.
The wintry weather is expected to continue into tomorrow as the forecasting agency has issued a yellow alert for snow and ice. The warning is in force from 12pm today until 10am tomorrow (November 22).
The alert is in force across the whole of Merseyside as the Met Office warned: “Wintry showers and icy patches are expected this evening and overnight, perhaps leading to some travel disruption.”
The forecasters have urged people to be vigilant as people could expect: “Some roads and railways likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services.

“Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths. Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces.” The Met Office urged people to stay safe when it is icy.
It added: “Plan to leave the house at least five minutes earlier than normal. Not needing to rush, reduces your risk of accidents, slips, and falls.”
The Met Office advice continued: “If you need to make a journey on foot, try to use pavements along main roads which are likely to be less slippery. Similarly, if cycling, try and stick to main roads which are more likely to have been treated.“Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, amending your travel plans if necessary. Be prepared for weather warnings to change: when a weather warning is issued, the Met Office recommends staying up to date with the weather forecast in your area.”
The full forecast for the North West today said: “A cold, frosty and possible icy start with wintry showers along the coasts. Cloudier than Wednesday with some bright intervals at times. Turning breezier into the evening. Maximum temperature 4 °C.”
Temperatures are expected to drop to -4C overnight as the Met Office added: “Wintry showers becoming more frequent through this evening and overnight, before sinking southwards. Cold with an overnight frost, and rather breezy.”
The outlook is similarly bleak tomorrow as it said: “Another cold start with wintry showers mostly confined to the coasts, moving further inland through the afternoon mixed with brighter interludes. Winds easing for a time.”
