Coleen admitted going to court was her ‘worst nightmare’
Coleen Rooney spoke about the ‘Wagatha Christie’ case on last night’s I’m A Celebrity. She told campmates that she felt ‘ashamed’ when Rebekah Vardy took her to court.
In 2019, Coleen published a social media post alleging that Rebekah Vardy had sold false stories about her to the press. Rebekah denied the claims but lost a defamation case against Coleen in 2022. The case was dubbed Wagatha Christie – a reference to both women as wives and girlfriends of footballers, and mystery author Agatha Christie.
In conversation with GK Barry, Dean McCullough and Jane Moore, Coleen said: “I put a post out saying someone’s doing stories and it’s coming from my Instagram. So I was onto it but I didn’t get what account.” To find out the culprit, the Liverpool mum shared a series of “false” stories and using a process of elimination, claimed they were viewed by one Instagram account only, that of Rebekah Vardy.

When asked by GK Barry if she “s*** herself” when posting the story, Coleen responded: “No because I just didn’t think it would get the impact that it did. I just done it because I was just that sick and tired of it, it was draining and it was the fact they carried on and carried on.”
The 38-year-old added: “That was my worst nightmare, was to go to court and that was the thing, she was taking me to court. I felt ashamed going to court because I’m not that type to play things out in public. I just felt like it was putting on a show for the whole world and I didn’t want that.”
Dean asked who owns the term ‘Wagatha Christie” to which Loose Women’s Jane Moore said “She [Rebekah Vardy] does.” Coleen threw a subtle dig, adding “she might be after you now”
One fan took to X, formerly known as Twitter stating: “The tea is PIPING. I can’t believe Rebekah Vardy has trademarked Wagatha Christie” and another joked: “Rebekah Vardy trying to work out how much ITV owe her for letting her trademarked term “Wagatha Christie” be used and aired on TV.”
In the same episode, wife of Wayne Rooney, Coleen, also opened up on a family tragedy. Speaking to Dean and Oti, the 38-year-old mum from Liverpool said: “my mum and dad lost my sister so I know exactly what he’s [Barry] going through. It’s so sad for the family.”
She added: “See I don’t usually get worked up, like it takes me a lot… even when Rosie died I kept it together for my mum and dad.”
