Coronation Street viewers finally learned who was responsible for bringing Joel Deering’s reign of terror to an end on Friday night.
Coronation Street teases who killed Joel Deering in new promo
On Friday night, Coronation Street viewers got to see the Joel Deering (Calum Lill) saga finally come to an end as the identity of his killer was finally revealed.
During the special episode, a string of flashbacks were shown from the night of Joel’s death, alongside Kit Green’s (Jacob Roberts) police interview.
For the past few weeks, there’s been a plethora of suspects who could all be responsible for killing Joel, including wronged ex Dee-Dee (Channique Sterling-Brown), her dad Ed (Trevor Michael Georges) and Uncle Ronnie (Vinta Morgan).
Bad boy Mason (Luca Toolan), DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myer), Carla Connor (Alison King), and Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) were also in the firing line.
This week, fans saw Max Turner (Paddy Bever) turn himself into the police, confessing to bludgeoning Joel before chucking him over the bridge.

It seems that his confession wasn’t the whole truth. As the episode drew to a close, Lauren was seen in hysterics reading a letter from Max, who told her to stick to the story that he was the one who hurt Joel, although it was her.
However, ITV fans believe there’s a twist in store as many took to social media to share their thoughts.
One person on Twitter said: “Why do I think he’s still not dead? I think he’s gonna wash up somewhere and Kit is gonna finish him off #corrie.” (sic)
Someone else wrote: “Is Joel playing dead or alive???
Another person commented: “Really hope it ends with Joel alive, because I honestly don’t believe he’s dead.”
“Truly don’t think Max and Lauren is the one who killed Joel at all. Kit is most likely involved for sure. They found Joel in a bag, but they dumped him without meaning someone was there after and saw him. There’s so much more to it,” wrote another.
One person, not believing he was dead, commented, “It’s okay, Joel. We’ll see you on Christmas Day.”
With someone else tweeting: “Eh? I’m sure they said the reveal was tonight, but it looked to me like Joel was coming around after he was thrown off the bridge. he was meant to be dead before he was in the water.”
Is Lauren really the person responsible for Joel’s death, if he’s even dead at all?
Ahead of the episode, actor Calum Lill shared a photo of his character sprawled out on the train tracks. He jokingly commented: “Sincerest apologies to the crew for the amount of times we had to reshoot this because I blinked.”
Joel first made his way onto the cobbles last year and struck up a relationship with solicitor Dee-Dee. However, when Lauren went missing and was believed to be dead, it was revealed Joel was the person behind her disappearance.
After she was tracked down by Dee-Dee and Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon), twists continued to unfold as it was uncovered that she was pregnant with Joel’s baby.
Learning about her condition, he spiked her food in her flat and attempted to illegally abort their baby, although it caused her to go into premature labour with their child being put in the ICU.
Coronation Street continues Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV from 8pm
