Today’s murky weather sadly seems to be setting the tone for the weekend
The sun rose on a city shrouded in mist today as a thick blanket of low clouds covered Liverpool and its surrounding areas. The Met Office reported “low cloud and fog patches” in the region this morning, breaking into sunny spells later in the day.
The murky weather sets the tone for the weekend, as forecasters have predicted “a rather grey and gloomy day” tomorrow, Friday, with mist, fog and drizzly rain possible at times. Chilly breezes are predicted for the afternoon, with maximum temperatures of 12C.
This is expected to be followed by a shower of rain on Saturday giving way to brighter skies, before another turbulent period of “strong winds and heavy showery rain” on Sunday.

Temperatures have noticeably dropped in Merseyside this week, and while headlines may suggest snow could be set to hit parts of the UK, forecasters said it’s not possible to pick out an “exact date” for snow to hit.
Mark Sidaway, Deputy Chief Meteorologist at the Met Office, said: “Despite what some headlines suggest, it’s not possible to accurately pick out an ‘exact date’ for snow to hit the UK weeks in advance, but we do have some long-range outputs that can help us to understand the chances.
“A northerly airflow is likely to drop temperatures further from the north through the weekend and at the start of next week. Across Merseyside temperatures could drop to as low as 1°C. The Met Office state that across the North West tonight a minimum temperature of 1°C could be expected.
Showery rain will spread slowly southwards on Friday and Saturday which will lead to a colder and breezier weekend. Mr Sidaway explained: “While temperatures will gradually decline through this week, there’s potential for a colder period of weather to develop from the weekend. At this range there’s still much detail to be worked out, but a more unsettled start to next week is likely, with a chance of frost and ice for some.
“This drop in temperatures heightens the chance of some snow to high ground in the north of the country, though there is still a minority of scenarios which could bring some snow to lower levels at times. Needless to say, we’ll be assessing the forecast for this period more in the coming days, but a colder spell of weather is likely, with some gusty winds also possible for some.”
