Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez returned to the goals on Saturday in the 2-0 victory over Aston Villa in the Premier League
Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez is in high spirits as he prepares for the final international break of the year over the next few days. Nunez has been a marmite figure at Anfield since his arrival from Benfica in 2022.
Many supporters feel that Nunez should be adding more goals to his game particularly if Arne Slot’s side are going to mount a Premier League title challenge this year. The striker has just three goals to his name so far this season and a mere 36 in 110 appearances for the Reds.
This has led to speculation that Slot may look for a more consistent goalscorer in the future to add another dimension to Liverpool’s attack. For now, the new manager is continuing to persevere with Nunez and he was rewarded last weekend against Aston Villa.

Nunez showed little signs of an absence of confidence as he expertly rounded Emi Martinez to fire home in front of The Kop. However, the frustration came as the Uruguayan had a couple of good chances to add to his tally but was unable to convert.
The 25-year-old will be looking to put his domestic concerns to one side over the next fortnight as he links up with the Uruguay squad for their World Cup qualifiers against Colombia and Brazil. Taking to social media, Nunez appeared to do just that as he shared a selection of pictures from his reunion with the national team accompanied with the caption: “At home.”
This international break will be the first time Nunez has represented Uruguay against Colombia since being banned for taking part in a brawl at Copa America. Nunez fought with the Colombia supporters after his country lost in the international tournament’s semi-finals.
