BBC Breakfast: Jon speaks about doing a half marathon
Jon Kay accidentally let slip some big news this morning, leaving his BBC Breakfast co-host Sally Nugent in shock.
Sally and Jon were back presenting the BBC show today, discussing the day’s top stories and crossing over to Carol Kirkwood for the weather forecast. Later, they were joined in the studio by Nina Warhurst to talk about rogue traders.
As they welcomed Nina onto the show for her segment, Jon surprised Sally by revealing: “Nina’s trying to make me do a half marathon with her,” causing Sally’s face to drop.
“Can’t believe you’ve just mentioned that on air. You’ve said it on the television now which means you’ll have to do it! ” she exclaimed, to which Jon replied: “I said trying to persuade me not that I’d do it..”
As Jon introduced Nina’s rogue traders segment, Sally could be seen mouthing to Nina that there was no way Jon was going to do it. “Are you doubting me?” Jon asked, reports the Express.
Nina then chimed in: “I’m using reverse psychology Sally. If I say he can’t do the half marathon, then he’ll say he is,” as Sally added: “I’m worried about him, I don’t think he should do it!”
Jon recently returned to the UK after presenting from the United States for the election. After his last segment in the UK, Sally expressed her concern: “Jon, you still haven’t said when you’re going to sleep. I am going to worry about you all day now.”
Jon could only laugh in response, adding: “I have no idea.” Ben Thompson, stepping in, advised Jon with a chuckle: “Pace yourself, it is going to be a long week, we might not see you for a few weeks if it keeps going on and on. Pace yourself, Jon. We will see you soon.”
Fans were delighted when a picture surfaced without Jon, showing the beloved broadcast team. One fan expressed their affection by commenting, “My favourite Tele gang! The best breakfast team,” and another shared similar sentiments: “The favourite gang.”
When questioned about his no-show in the group photo, Jon humorously revealed: “When you organise a get-together for your Breakfast chums. And then realise you organised it on your day off…” which had his followers roaring with laughter.
