Clayton Hibbs tries to make contact with mum Shona Platt in upcoming scenes of Coronation Street but why is he in behind bars and why does he want to get in touch?
ITV Coronation Street: Shona gives her rendition of an ABBA classic
Shona Platt (Julia Golding) is told her jailbird son Clayton Hibbs (Callum Harrison) is in hospital in Coronation Street this week. David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) recently received an email from Weatherfield Prison Services and reached for a letter in his back pocket but covered when his wife entered.
In upcoming scenes, David confides in his brother Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) about the visiting order from Clayton. Nick advises him to come clean to Shona as she’s bound to find out in the long run and David forms a plan.
A concerned David later visits killer Clayton in prison. but will he tell Shona? Later in the week, David finds his wife in a terrible state and she reveals that she had a visit from the police and Clayton is in hospital. Fans of the ITV soap will know that Clayton, and his step-brother Macca, were introduced to the soap as acquaintances of villain Callum Logan and Gemma Winter back in 2016.

After Callum’s body was found underneath Kylie Platt’s (Paula Lane) house, the mother of his son Max Turner, Clayton and Macca confronted her, unaware she had killed Callum months earlier in self-defence.
Later on, the pair began harassing Gemma at work, getting her to accept counterfeit notes from them when they bought food from the kebab shop she worked in. Things took a devastating turn though when Clayton attacked Gemma during a fight, leading to David’s wife Kylie running over to defend her only for him to stab her and kill her.
After his arrest, it was later revealed that Shona, who made her debut in December 2016, was his mother. She met David in a bar and had no idea until later on that his late wife Kylie was the woman her son had killed, with David eventually finding out her real identity. Clayton was subsequently found guilty of murder and was handed down a sentence between fifteen years to life.
Things took a sinister turn in 2019 when Clayton contacted his mother by a smuggled phone, telling her that the only way his tormentors would leave him alone would be for her to smuggle drugs into the prison. The pushers seemingly involved wasted no time, breaking into No.8 at night when the occupants were asleep and leaving a video of their visit with Shona to show that they would get at her and her family at any time to coerce her into working with them.
A few weeks later, he was let out of the prison to attend the funeral of his father Dean where Macca and his friends, disguised as undertakers, had arranged to spring him from the jail. After giving a tearful eulogy in the church, Clayton joined the mourners at the graveside where at a given signal from Macca the prison officers were attacked while one of the impostor undertakers cut Clayton’s handcuffs free with a bolt cutter.
The lad ran off after stopping Macca bludgeoning his mother with the spade. A day later he contacted his mother, desperate for her help as there was a price on his head and he asked her to drive him away from the area. She took him to a deserted house on Port Lane, bringing him food and money the next day but she had also contacted the police, telling them where her son was to be found but claiming the call was his idea in order to get minimum extra time added to his sentence.
Clayton reacted with fury, holding her hostage with a knife and telling her the devastating truth: he was the seller and organiser of the drugs within the prison, with his father smuggling them in within packets up his backside and he had died when one of them had burst open.
He made a threat to the police that he would kill his mother in one hour if they didn’t meet his demands and when the time was up, he went for her with knife but she managed to stab him, perforating his bowel. He was rushed back to hospital where he was operated on and stabilised, ready to return to prison when he fully recovered but without his mother in his life as she stated she would never see him again, now that she was aware of the true nature of his character after he showed no remorse over killing Kylie or causing Dane’s death.
How will Shona react to the news about Clayton being in hospital and will she forgive David for hiding her son’s request from her?
