Viewers have asked for a change to the voting system
The BBC Strictly Come Dancing results show returned on Sunday night for the eighth week of the season. With this week being the final episode before the couples get to dance at the coveted Blackpool Tower ballroom, it is one of the most highly anticipated of the season.
The two couples in the dance off were opera singer Wynne Evans and his partner Katya Jones as well as singer Shayne Ward and his partner Nancy Xu. Ultimately, head judge Shirley Ballas held the deciding vote which led to Shayne and Nancy leaving the competition.
Fans immediately took to social media to express their disappointment at the outcome of Sunday’s vote off with Shirley’s voting power being centre of the conversation. Many have asked that in the event of a split vote, the public be given the final decision instead of the head judge.

One X user commented: “I don’t know if this is an unpopular opinion but if the #strictly have a spilt vote (like last night) they should revert to the public vote.” Another added: “If the dance off ends up in two votes for each couple it should then go back to the public vote to decide who goes. Shirley should not have the final say!! #strictly.”
Another agreed: “Totally the wrong decision, again, by head judge Shirley. We like Wynne but Shayne was definitely the better dancer there and deserved to stay.” While one person penned: “I’m really disappointed for Shayne. Shirley’s vote shouldn’t count double. #strictly“
This person added: “I am gobsmacked absolutely unbelievable, Wynne is always so ridged like a cardboard cut-out. Shayne was by far the better dancer, massive fix!!” Another said: “#strictly You’ve got to laugh at the bias on this program. Saving Wynne over Shane? Utterly ridiculous decision. Even Wynne didn’t believe it!!!!”
However, some agreed with Shirley’s decision, believing Evans to be the better dancer. One person said: “#strictly Right decision Shirley. Shayne hardly danced at all. Nancy danced around him.”
Next week will mark this season’s return to the Blackpool ballroom. Current front runners include West Derby-born comedian Chris McCausland, Ex-Love islander Tasha Ghouri, and singer/TV host JB Gill.
