Cleaning fan Camilla Kvia showed how you can clean up split nail polish within an instant – and you only need one ingredient
A cleaning fan has revealed the simple way you can banish nail polish quickly and efficiently without any mess. Stains can be a pain at the best of times, but there are some which may be trickier to clean up in comparison to others.
Nail polish may be fiddly to apply, but it’s also incredibly easy to spill by accident. Content creator Camilla Kvia has dispelled any dismay people may have about nail polish stains.
In a recent Instagram post, she showed just how easy it is to clear up spilt nail polish from a table. She tested out a simple hack using salt to clear up the nail varnish from a table.
By adding a generous amount of salt to the stain and leaving it for a few minutes, the nail varnish absorbed the salt, clumping together. Once the nail varnish had dried, Camilla easily swept up the polish from the table, leaving no remains.

Camilla captioned the post: “Love it when you send me tips that I can test. And extra fun when it works. I used salt, but it works with sugar too. What do you give this lifehack from 1-10?”
Cleaning and make-up fans alike were amazed by Camilla’s hack, with one person saying: “Ooh nice to know.” Katja wrote: “I think we should have known that back then in the bathroom.”
The hack has also been tipped by JDog Carpet Cleaning, explaining that it can also be done on a tile floor. The crystals absorb into the wet polish, so it makes it easy to clean.
However, if the nail polish has dried, you may just be able to peel it off. The cleaning experts said you may be able to use nail polish remover on ceramic tiles “as long as you don’t leave it on for too long”.
They recommend scrubbing the polish spill with your remover and dry the area. Then, wash with water or tile cleaner a couple of times to ensure there aren’t any lingering chemicals.
When it comes to spilt nail polish on clothes, such as cotton or linen, Best Maids recommended putting a heavy layer of paper towels under the stain, then putting on acetone nail polish remover and clean with a white cloth.
The nail polish remover must be clear in colour, fragrance, and moisturiser-free otherwise you may end up leaving another stain. Rinse the spot properly and put it aside for laundry as usual.
