Strictly fans have slammed the choice of music on Saturday’s show
BBC Strictly Come Dancing returned tonight for the eighth week with just one more week to go until the coveted Blackpool Tower Ballroom performances. Just minutes into the show tonight, fans took to social media to express their feelings on one particular element they aren’t enjoying.
Many fans have shared their unhappiness with the show’s music choices, calling them ‘terrible’ and claiming they are “distracting” from the performances. Tonight, ex-Love Islander Tasha Ghouri was first to dance the quick step to Maria Carey’s Fantasy and fans were quick to comment.
On X, formerly known as Twitter, one fan said: “Terrible song choice #strictly“, while another added: “What is this awful version of Mariah Carey?! If the song doesn’t fit the style of dance you want then choose another song! #strictly“

Also unhappy with the song choice, this user commented: “I can never concentrate on the dance with the wrong song. What happened to a good old fashion quick step tune.” Another added: “For the love of good music, please stop butchering the bloody songs.”
It seems that many Strictly fans haven’t enjoyed the song choices this year, with one saying: “It’s almost got to the point where you have to watch the dancing with the sound turned down, because some of the song choices are a bit *strange* to say the least.”
However, others have praised the choice of music. Tonight, Shayne Ward danced to Cyndi Lauper’s Time After Time, and one X user said: “Thoroughly enjoyed @shayneTward and Nancy. Just shows how the right choice of song can enhance the dance. #strictly#StrictlyComeDancing.”
One of the night’s most anticipated dances came from Sarah Hadland who danced the American Smooth to M People’s Proud. The choice of song is a nod to Hadland’s character Stevie on the show Miranda as she would sing the hook most episodes.
A pleased fan shared: “I’m so pleased Sarah got to dance to this song. It would have been a travesty if it hadn’t been included. Great partnership. #Strictly.” Hadland even received support from singer Heather Small in anticipation of the dance to her song predicting “10s all the way, I’m sure”.
