Despite the talent in their squad – Kylian Mbappe arrived on a free transfer in the summer to join the likes of Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Junior – all is not well at the Santiago Bernabeu.
A 4-0 loss to rivals Barcelona on home soil left the Madridistas fuming, while the defeat to Milan has heaped more pressure on manager Carlo Ancelotti.
The Italian coach, who has won the Champions League five times, has also been subject to criticism over his use of Federico Valverde from the player’s wife in the aftermath of the Milan loss.
“If I say what I really think, I’ll end up in jail,” said Mina Bonino on X after the Uruguayan was taken off at half time.
In response to a supporter who replied suggesting the change was tactical, she replied: “Brother, Fede plays best as a midfielder. What are you talking about? When are they going to understand once and for all that Fede isn’t a winger?”
Madrid also recently boycotted the Ballon d’Or ceremony in a perceived show of solidarity with their star winger Vinicius. There was anger in the Spanish capital after the Brazilian, who was the long-time favourite to win the prize, missed out on the award to Manchester City midfielder Rodri.
