The ITV gameshow returned on Thursday night with Charlotte, Nilpa, Mike, and Ethan putting their knowledge to the test.
The Chase: Contestant Charlotte looks sad after losing
Bradley Walsh played host to another episode of The Chase on ITV, where contestants Charlotte, Nilpa, Mike, and Ethan challenged the quiz prowess of Jenny “The Vixen” Ryan in hopes of bagging an impressive cash prize.
On Thursday night’s show, Mike, who was up third, was sadly knocked out of the running by The Vixen, leaving his fellow contestants Charlotte and Nilpa in the game for the final round.
Tragedy struck when Ethan, the last contender after Charlotte and Nilpa made it through, stepped up with the support of his teammates to nab a cool £88,000, taking the team’s total to a staggering £100,000.
However, despite answering 17 queries right as a trio in the final chase, they faced heartbreak when The Vixen caught them with only five seconds spared, reducing Charlotte to fight back tears.
Over on social media platform X, previously known as Twitter, fans shared their dismay over what they described as a “horrible” ending to the game, reports the Express.

Social media comments flooded in, with one person remarking: “Charlotte looked like she was gonna cry, unlucky #TheChase.”
Another expressed sympathetic sentiments, writing: “If you was rich, I’d ring up and give Charlotte the money, she looks gutted #thechase.” (sic)
A further comment noted: “Charlotte looks like she is going to cry.”
Yet another viewer added to the discourse, saying: “That was just horrible. Those players deserved that 100k. They were good. Gutted for them #thechase.”
Concern arose among viewers following a heart-stopping finale in which the contestants missed out on a substantial cash prize with a mere five seconds left on the clock. This sparked discussions online that the final chase might have been rigged.
The controversy ignited after host Bradley Walsh asked The Vixen in the closing moments, “Which Swedish director was nominated for nine Oscars?”
The Chaser responded simply with: “Bergman,” which Bradley accepted without insisting on a full name.
This led to an outcry from one viewer who took to social media to express their frustration: “Seriously poor from Brad and The Chase tonight. Team robbed. There are four Bergman film directors in one family alone…surely she had to give a Christian name? #thechase.”
Another chimed in with disappointment: “They just got swindled there with that Bergman answer #TheChase.”
Further criticism came when someone else remarked: “Since when do you only give half a name on the chase? ‘Bergman should have been the full name, and the chaser gets away with it again #TheChase.”
Yet another person joined the fray, pointing out what they felt was a double standard: “Should have been full name of director not just Bergman! #TheChase.”
Indignation continued with another comment stating: “If the player replied ‘Bergman’ to a question, Brad’s response would have been “need more..”
Amidst the accusations of unfairness, one viewer summed it up bluntly: “Defo a fix #thechase.”
In the end, despite their valiant efforts, the three remaining participants left the show with nothing.
The Chase airs weekdays at 5.30pm on ITV.
