Coronation Street attracted a high-profile sleuth with its current murder mystery storyline, with Fern Britton chiming in with her own theory
Coronation Street: DS Swain gets update on Joel
Coronation Street’s latest murder mystery has got everyone talking – even Fern Britton.
The ITV soap has killed off lawyer – and abuser – Joel Deering and left it as a whodunnit, with DS Swain, Dee-Dee Bailey and her dad Ed all in the frame. Fingers have also been pointed at everyone from Mason Radcliffe to Carla Connor.
Now Celebrity Big Brother star Fern Britton has chimed in with her own theories, and she’s certain Joel isn’t actually dead. She theorised on X, formerly Twitter: “Just been having a catch up with Corrie , over lunch. So, what is going on? Who murdered Joel? Is he actually dead? Who identified the body, Kit? Why did Dee-Dee buy a tin of spaghetti hoops and a some custard? Feeding a chained up Joel in a basement? I’m exhausted…”
She later insisted: “I don’t think he’s dead!” as others insisted: “Dee-Dee murdered him!”
Other explanations for Dee-Dee’s bizarre purchases came from fans sure she’s pregnant with Joel’s baby and having pregnancy cravings, as one said: “She’s pregnant.” Another joked: “Spaghetti hoops and custard, must be a northern cuisine.”
Someone else argued: “Wish they would hurry up and reveal that Joel is still alive. If he was dead then why didn’t they show him getting whacked over the head with a crowbar at the start? This isn’t how a whodunnit is done!”
And another fan echoed: “Joel might have a twin he’s killed off and so still might be alive!” And a different user wrote: “I’m not convinced Joel is dead. There I finally said it!”
It comes after Corrie finally confirmed how Lisa Swain ended up with mysterious bruises. She explained to Carla: “I got itchy feet waiting for uniform to find Joel so I went looking for him. I didn’t find him but what I did see is some bloke trying to snatch this woman’s bag.
“Then he got in his car. I was trying to clock the registration plate and he clipped me on the side as he drove off. Hence the cracked ribs. I didn’t report it because I just – I didn’t want to be made to have time off.”
