The Everton forward sat down with Jack Harrison in an honest conversation
Everton FC player Dwight McNeil has revealed his biggest fear. The English forward joined The Toffees in 2022 and has been a key player for the blues so far this season.
Three goals – including stunning efforts against Crystal Palace and Aston Villa – means he leads the club’s Premier League scoring charts. He has also provided several assists, including the pass from which Michael Keane scored against Ipswich.
In an interview with Everton published earlier this month but filmed in preseason, Dwight sat down with fellow attacker Jack Harrison for an episode of ‘pick n’ mix’. This is a series on the club’s YouTube channel where players have to ask each other questions drawn at random.

Dwight had to ask Jack if he had any phobias. The former Leeds player responded: “I don’t think there’s anything that I’m really scared of. If I see a spider, I’m not going to be like, it’s so nice. I know I’m going to be thrown off, but I don’t mind putting it in a glass and chucking it out the window. I’ve had snakes around my neck and stuff before.”
Dwight called Jack ‘mad’ for being comfortable with such creatures around his neck. When the question was put to Dwight though, he had an immediate answer with sharks and water generally, which annoys his girlfriend Megan Sharpley.
He said: “I never, never get in the water. I’d never get in a shark cage. We don’t belong in the water. I don’t get why people go out to look for them.”
When Jack asked if he would get into water if it was above knee level, Dwight said he wouldn’t. He added: “Meg hates it when we go on holiday, because I won’t get in (the water). My fear is knowing that there’s something underneath me, and me not knowing what it is. As a kid growing up, Jaws – I hated it. It scared me every time. I had nightmares about it. Nearly every night, I’d cry.”
The 24-year-old received treatment in Everton’s latest game against Fulham before limping off. Asked whether he had any news of the injury following the match, manager Sean Dyche said: “Not yet, not yet. He obviously had to come off… he was on the edge so hopefully it is not too serious.”
