Road closures are in place and traffic is at a standstill as emergency services work at the scene
A cyclist was seriously injured following a crash involving an HGV truck this morning. Merseyside Police confirmed officers were called just before 7.35am today, Tuesday, October 29 to the roundabout at Tower Road and Birkenhead Road, Birkenhead, following reports of the incident.
Emergency services are currently dealing with the incident at the scene and the cyclist is being treated for serious injuries. The driver of the HGV stopped at the scene and is helping the police with their enquiries.
Road closures are in place around Tower Road, Birkenhead Road, Dock Road and Duke Street while emergency services attend the incident. A spokesperson for the force said: “We ask that drivers avoid the area and find an alternative route. We thank you for your patience as we deal with this incident.”

Merseyside Police has appealed for anyone who witnessed the incident or who might have CCTV or dash cam footage which may assist the investigation to come forward.
Chief Inspector Phil Thompson said: “We have now launched an investigation into the collision and would urge anyone who witnessed the incident, or has CCTV and dashcam footage to please contact us.
