Former footballer Jermaine Jenas has made his return to television for the first time since he was sacked by the BBC back in August, following a scandal over inappropriate texts
Jermaine Jenas was spotted at Liverpool’s match against Arsenal on Sunday, marking his first television appearance since his departure from the BBC. The former Newcastle and England midfielder, 41, parted ways with the BBC in August amidst a scandal involving inappropriate texts sent to female colleagues, and has maintained a low profile since then.
However, Jenas did take to Instagram last month to address the situation further and express gratitude for the support he received, hinting at plans for a return to broadcasting soon. It has now been revealed that the ex-One Show host was at the Emirates Stadium this weekend, working for an overseas broadcast covering the Reds’ colossal Premier League clash with Arsenal.
It is understood Jenas is working Malaysian Premier League provider Astro – it is the first match he has covered since Ipswich vs Liverpool on the opening day of the season. He is appearing alongside former Arsenal duo Martin Keown and Henri Lansbury.
Since retiring from football, Jenas smoothly transitioned into a career as a pundit and was a regular face on the BBC, appearing on Match of the Day and The One Show. He was even considered a potential successor to MOTD host Gary Lineker before his departure from the corporation was confirmed.
A BBC spokesperson stated in August: “We can confirm that he is no longer part of our presenting line up.” Jenas also frequently appeared on TNT Sports’ Premier League coverage, but has not been seen on the broadcaster since his dismissal from the BBC, reports the Mirror.
In a recent video shared on social media, Jenas updated his followers with hints of up-and-coming ventures after some time of reflection. He revealed: “There’s some exciting stuff that I’ve been working on. So hopefully you’ll have that to look forward to very soon. And hopefully I’ll be back just talking about what I love really, which is football. I’ve been living the life of those Spurs fans who’ve been up and down and up and down.”
He also touched upon Nottingham Forest’s performances saying, “Forest got a great result up at Anfield and have been playing well. So I’ve been watching but I’m looking forward to kind of getting back and just talking about what I love most. So last of all, thank you very much and, yeah, I’ll see you soon.”
