Arne Slot’s Liverpool twice came back from behind to draw 2-2 with Premier League title rivals Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes Arne Slot should be disappointed that his team did not beat Arsenal considering what happened to them in the second half. The Gunners started the match on fire and took the lead inside ten minutes with Bukayo Saka firing past Caoimhin Kelleher.
Liverpool responded well and were level about eight minutes later when Virgil van Dijk scored from close range following a corner. The North London club had the advantage at the break as Mikel Merino headed home, a goal which was confirmed after a lengthy VAR delay.
In the second 45 minutes, chances were limited but the Gunners lost both Gabriel and Jurrien Timber to injury. With a new look defence to face, the Reds took advantage with Trent Alexander-Arnold cutting open the backline with a key pass to find Darwin Nunez who pulled it back for Mohamed Salah to slot home.

Having gone behind twice, there seemed to be acceptance among the travelling supporters that a point was well earned but Carragher was less convinced. Speaking on Sky Sports, he said: “When you think of the problems that Arsenal had, not just before the game but more in the game, the changes that they had to make, the makeshift back four at the end with the young kid coming on at left-back (Myles Lewis-Skelly), I actually expected them (Liverpool) to create a lot more in the second half.”
A draw leaves Liverpool a point behind Manchester City who sit top of the Premier League. The Reds are four points above third-placed Arsenal who sit in third.
