Coronation Street’s Jesse Chadwick actor John Thomson appeared on Friday’s This Morning to talk about his recent return to the cobbles and Gail Platt’s exit storyline
Coronation Street’s Jesse Chadwick actor John Thomson let slip upcoming details from the cobbles on Friday’s This Morning.
During the latest instalment, John, 55, was on the sofa to talk about his recent return to Weatherfield after 15 years. John’s character Jesse has returned to the cobbles as part of Gail Platt’s exit storyline as actress Helen Worth prepares to bow out of the ITV soap after 50 years.
Only recently on the cobbles, Gail suffered a terrifying heart attack as her family rowed over returning love interest Jesse as they don’t trust him. Teasing what is coming up next, actor John said: “Gail is leaving, yeah! So what happens is, I visit Gail in hospital and she’s post cardiac arrest, it’s her second heart attack, and I’m allowed to say this…

“Gail proposes to me! I think it’s a Leap Year, isn’t it? Gail proposes to me but that’s why… I can’t say anymore but she’s heavily medicated so I don’t know if her intentions are true!”
It comes as recent scenes have seen Sarah Platt, (Tina O’Brien) accuse Jesse of stealing her ex Damon Hay’s (Ciarán Griffiths), hidden money. However, in a twist earlier this week, Sarah’s own brother David Platt, (Jack P Shepherd), was actually responsible.
It was announced earlier this year that Gail star Helen, 73, is leaving her role after a huge five decades and some iconic scenes on the cobbles. Details of what the storyline will be that leads to Gail leaving the soap after decades on screen have not been confirmed, but bosses have teased that it will be “emotional” and will no doubt be a fitting departure for a soap legend. Helen will depart in scenes at the end of this year.
Speaking of her decision to bow out, Helen said earlier this year: “This year felt like the perfect time to leave the show after celebrating 50 years in the most wonderful job on the most wonderful street in the world. I made the decision at the start of the year and spoke to the producers who were very kind and understanding. I have been truly blessed to have been given the most incredible scripts week in week out, and to have worked with fantastic actors, directors and a brilliant crew. The past 50 years have flown by and I don’t think the fact that I am leaving has quite sunk in yet.”
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITV X.
