Liverpool want to keep both of their stars Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold amid uncertainty over their futures
Dietmar Hamann has name dropped two Premier League stars that Liverpool should consider signing as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah. The Reds face the prospect of losing the Egypt international for nothing with his contract set to expire next summer.
Salah, who has been at Anfield since 2017, is yet to agree fresh terms along with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk. With the possibility that this could be Salah’s last season in a Reds shirt, Hamann says Arsenal star Bukayo Saka would be his preferred candidate to succeed the winger.
However, he also believes Jadon Sancho would be a solid alternative if he rediscovers his form at Chelsea. The 24-year-old is currently on loan in west London after falling out of favour at Manchester United following his return from Borussia Dortmund in the summer.

“If I had to pick another player to replace him with, Liverpool would have to go for Bukayo Saka,” Hamann told Metro. “If Jadon Sancho can find the form he had at Borussia Dortmund, he could be an option to play on the right wing. In the short term, Liverpool have great forwards to fill in that spot too.”
Liverpool also have another dilemma with Alexander-Arnold yet to commit his long-term future on Merseyside amid interest from Real Madrid. Hamann meanwhile, believes he could depart if the Spanish giants come knocking in the new year.
“I don’t see Trent Alexander-Arnold leaving in January, but if Real Madrid come calling it will be hard for him to reject them,” he added. “More and more Englishmen are playing abroad now. You can’t fault Alexander-Arnold if he does want to go.
“Jude Bellingham is potentially drawing him to the club, and the fact they got Kylian Mbappe on a free transfer shows they can do a similar move with Alexander-Arnold next summer. Trent Alexander-Arnold is a scouse Galactico. I’ve not seen an Englishman take a free kick like he does since David Beckham.
“His passing, technique and ability is a joy to watch. Most fans would say they’ve paid to watch an attacker like Michael Owen, Fernando Torres or someone like that, fans now pay to go watch Alexander-Arnold play from right back.”
