Coronation Street fans reckon David Platt isn’t the one who stole Damon Hay’s cash – and the ‘real culprit’ is not who viewers would expect
Coronation Street fans are convinced David Platt didn’t actually steal Damon Hay’s money – as they ‘work out’ who really did it. Over in Weatherfield recently, jailed bad boy Damon (Ciaran Griffiths) offered to use some dirty money to pay for Sarah Platt’s (Tina O’Brien) daughter Bethany’s (Lucy Fallon) medical bills, after her botched cosmetic surgery in Turkey.
The money was set aside by Damon in a lock-up after his involvement in an armed robbery. Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson) found out about Damon’s cash offer, and didn’t tell Sarah at first. However, by the time he came clean to her, the money had mysteriously vanished.
A range of residents were suspected including Jesse Chadwick (John Thomson) – who is the new beau of Gail Platt (Helen Worth). Adam was also questioned by Sarah – but he insisted he didn’t take the cash.

However, during Monday’s episode (October 21) troublemaker Logan (Harry Lowbridge) broke into Sarah’s home, thinking she had the cash stored away. But when the episode came to an end viewers seemed to find out the culprit. Lily was caught by her dad David rummaging through the cupboard under the stairs.
A panicked David tried to get her to go away, and she did, he was seen searching for something. David then opened a bag that was full of cash. He buried it under a duvet and other stuff. However, while this could confirm that David stole the money, viewers are certain that it wasn’t actually him.
On a Corrie Facebook fan page, viewers shared their thoughts on who is the real culprit. One person said: “I don’t think it was David!” Someone else replied: “Don’t think it was him, he looked shocked when he saw the money.” A third agreed: “I don’t believe David did steal the money and someone else has hidden it there.”
Sharing their thoughts on who it could be, several people suggested David’s partner Shona (Julia Goulding) in what would be a big twist. One person said: “Does anyone think it could be Shona.” A second agreed: That’s a good idea, as maybe he told her about the money?” A third penned: “I’m thinking the same. Still don’t think David did it there will be a twist.”
