Three men, aged 41, 36 and 27, have been arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault
A pavement was spattered in blood after a mass brawl broke out on a road in broad daylight. Emergency services were called to Lower Breck Road in Anfield at around 4pm this afternoon, Tuesday, October 22.
It followed a report a fight had broken out and some of the men were armed with weapons. A large cordon remains in place on Lower Breck Road and inquiries are ongoing.
Three men, aged 41, 36 and 27, were arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault. Videos seen by the Liverpool ECHO and understood to be from the incident today, show men violently fighting with scaffolding tubes as they run up and down the pavement on the busy road. Three men were taken to hospital after the incident. The severity of their injuries and their current condition is not known.

When the ECHO arrived at the scene on Lower Breck Road this afternoon, a white Ford van with a smashed windscreen could be seen behind the cordon next to a blood spattered floor. A woman at the scene said she spoke to another woman who witnessed the incident. She said an assault involving “metal rods” had taken place and there was “blood all over the floor”.
A number of shops and businesses within the cordon were closed after the incident. There is also a primary school and a children’s centre within the cordon. It is not known how long the road closure will remain in place and whether the businesses, school or children’s centre will be open tomorrow.
In pictures taken by the ECHO a team of forensic officers can be seen analysing the scene and gathering evidence to assist the police investigation. Their attention seemed to be focused on the pavement close to a van with a smashed windscreen.
Chief Inspector Paul Rannard said: “We are in the very early stages of an investigation and a cordon remains in place at the scene as officers carry out the initial inquiries. This is a shocking incident that occurred in a busy area of Anfield and would have been witnessed by members of the community. Please be reassured that we are taking this extremely seriously and we have already made three arrests.
“If you witnessed what happened or have any information, please come forward. Similarly, if you live in the area or happened to be driving past, please check your CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage to see if you captured anything. Even if it appears insignificant, please get in touch as it could prove vital to our inquiries.
“We are determined to establish the full circumstances of this incident. While we do this, it’s vital that people avoid speculation, especially on social media, which could unnecessarily increase anxiety and fear in the community.”
