Joel Deering’s body was found in the river last month and Coronation Street viewers have turned detective in a bid to find out who killed the sinister solicitor
Corrie: Joel’s body has been found
Coronation Street fans are certain they’ve pieced together the mystery of who murdered Joel Deering last month. The lawyer, played by Calum Lill, was found dead in recent episodes of the ITV drama, just as it seemed he was about to face justice for his crimes, which included grooming young girls like Lauren Bolton, portrayed by Cait Fitton.
However, Joel didn’t appear at his plea hearing at the end of last month, leading to a warrant being issued for his arrest. After transferring funds to Lauren and his former wife Emily, there were suspicions that Joel might have committed suicide.
His body was discovered in the river, but the autopsy showed that Joel was already deceased before he hit the water, sparking a murder inquiry. The police have been working tirelessly to identify who was behind Joel’s death and have already questioned Mason Radcliffe, played by Luca Toolan.

Mason was spotted disposing of a crowbar, the same weapon used to murder Joel, by policeman Kit Green, played by Jacob Roberts, making him a key suspect despite his insistence that the crowbar was given to him by his brother.
Nonetheless, viewers are speculating that Stu Carpenter, played by Bill Felows, may have been the one to kill Joel before departing Weatherfield. The Speed Daal employee was eager to guide troubled youth Mason onto the right track, but chose to leave Weatherfield to start afresh in Germany with his granddaughter following a disagreement with Yasmeen Nazir, played by Shelley King, reports Plymouth Live.
On a Coronation Street Facebook group, theories are rife among the shows fans. A viewer speculated: “I think Stu did it. He handled Mason’s crow bar and he disappeared and went to Germany very very quickly. I don’t think it was Dee Dee. It is too obvious that it is her. I think there’s a twist and It’s Stu Carpenter. I think he finished Joel off to save Mason.”
Echoing this sentiment, another fan remarked: “You might be right. I also don’t think Stu went to Germany. He’s gone walkabout.” While yet another member chimed in with a brief but telling comment: “Interesting.”
Coronation Street is on ITV at 8pm Monday, Wednesday and Friday and available to stream from 7am on ITVX
