The ECHO has taken a look back at the unsolved murder of Joanne Wilson who died more than 20 years ago
A mum-of-one’s body was found at home by her twin sister after suffering severe head injuries, with her killer still unknown more than 20 years later. Joanne Wilson was just 22 when she was found in her living room by her twin sister on Stanley Close in Seacombe, Wirral, in October 2002 as she was slumped over with head injuries.
Ms Wilson, who had a three-year-old daughter according to previous reports, was pronounced dead at the scene. It was a Home Office post-mortem in Macclesfield that found the severity of the head injuries. A murder investigation was launched and a man known to the mum, who lived with her sister at the time, was arrested and charged.
But on the day of the 35-year-old’s plea hearing, all charges were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service. One neighbour at the time of the death said: “Everybody knew the family, especially the young children who we would see playing in the street. They were all a lively bunch.”

In a fresh appeal for information from Merseyside Police, Kevin Clague, head of Merseyside Police’s Serious Crime Review Unit, said: “A murder investigation is never closed and I would urge people in the community for their help with the investigation and remind them that it’s never too late to come forward with new information you may have, no matter how small.
“We know that allegiances can change over time and we hope that if anyone has new information and is reading this, that they can search their conscience and do the right thing. If you know anything about Joanne’s murder or feel as though you can assist with our investigation, please come forward.”
