Mohamed Salah displayed his qualities once again in Liverpool colours as they beat Chelsea to return to the top of the Premier League
Liverpool star Mohamed Salah posted with Chelsea match-winner Curtis Jones following their 2-1 triumph. The Reds returned to the top of the Premier League thanks to the academy graduates’ second-half strike.
Jones, who starred for Arne Slot’s side after he deputised in place of Alexis Mac Allister on Sunday, was in the thick of the action at both ends of the pitch. The 23-year-old made an important block to deny Cole Palmer in the first-half and moments later, he won a penalty at the other end after being brought down by Levi Colwill.
Salah stepped up to dispatch the spot-kick and on the stroke of half-time, Jones was brought down by Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez after going one-on-one with the shot-stopper. Referee John Brooks initially pointed to the spot but overturned the decision following the intervention of VAR.

The 23-year-old made another key contribution in the second-half as he drained any Chelsea momentum after Nicolas Jackson equalised three minutes in the second-half. Jones ghosted beyond the Londoners’ back line to stab home from Salah’s cross to restore the lead in front of the Kop.
Taking to Instagram, Salah posed with Jones with the pair all smiles after their good work in an important win and first test under the new head coach. The Player of the Match-winner can be seen recovering after a gruelling 81-minute run-out, with the hectic period continuing when they travel to RB Leipzig in the Champions League.
“It’s the most important thing,” said Jones. “We came away with a win, that’s the most important thing. I was involved in a lot as well, as you said, but I’m happy that we won.
“There’s been times when I’ve arrived in the box and it has always been a first-time one; there was one against Leicester where I have come in at the back post and there was one against Spurs as well.
“As soon as Mo had the ball, I’ve made the run and I thought it was going to come and it did. But it kind of bounced as well so I thought, I’ve got to have a touch and it’s got to be a perfect touch. I was fortunate enough it was in my path and I got the goal.”
