Strictly Come Dancing’s Craig Revel Horwood took a swipe at his co-star Anton Du Beke during the latest live show
Strictly: Craig Revel Horwood quips about Anton’s ‘surgeon’
Strictly Come Dancing’s Saturday night episode saw a moment of tension as Craig Revel Horwood took a cheeky jab at fellow judge Anton Du Beke.
The judges were giving their critiques to Shayne Ward and his dance partner Nancy Xu following their American Smooth performance to Sam Smith’s Get Here.
Anton, who celebrated his 58th birthday earlier this week, had brought up Shayne’s recent 40th birthday during the show. He quipped, “Well it’s lovely to see another 40-year-old in the building!” which got the audience chuckling.
Anton then tried to downplay the laughter by saying, “Alright, it’s not that funny! Now I think that was lovely, that was a super dance, there was a lot about that”, before he commended the pair on their lifts.
He did offer some constructive criticism, however, advising: “I want you to keep that focus of being together even when you’re not together as there’s a lot to like, keep going! ” and mentioned that Shayne seemed “lost” when he moved to one side of the stage before rejoining Nancy – a move Shayne explained was intentional within the choreography, reports the Mirror.
Craig, aged 59, disagreed with Anton’s interpretation, suggesting: “I totally got the bust up and then the back together. I thought that was very clear, so Anton you need to maybe look at your own relationships and what you’ve been through potentially.”
Anton retorted with a playful age-related dig: “I have to be honest with you, you’re much older than I am! I’m 40, I didn’t recognise it, maybe it’s an older man’s thing.”
However, Craig hit back at Anton with a cutting remark of his own, saying: “You should tell your surgeon darling. It’s not working out for you! ” which got quite the reaction from the audience.
Earlier on, Craig had also directed a barbed comment towards Anton, remarking: “Anton, darling, Anton, are you going to be standing up any more? It’s getting really on my nerves! I’m just saying!”
This follows last weekend’s Strictly drama where Nick Knowles became the third celebrity to leave the competition after a tense dance-off which saw him pitted against ex-Coronation Street star Shayne Ward.
The 62-year-old DIY SOS presenter and his professional partner Luba Mushtuk earned a score of 21 out of 40 for their Charleston set to Rain On The Roof from Paddington 2, putting them second from last on that week’s leaderboard.
When host Tess Daly asked about his experience on the show, Nick replied: “I’ve really, really been surprised by how much I’ve loved doing it and by two things that happen. “One is how much you care each week, and the other is how much you don’t want to let down your partner. The only reason I could do this is simply because of Luba’s changes, she’s been amazing.
There are some amazing dancers up there, and I will love watching the rest of the series. ” A tearful Luba added: “I’ve never met someone as determined as you, and I remember you saying that if you do your best, you’ll be very happy. I think you did more than your best. Thank you.”
Strictly Come Dancing airs Saturdays and Sundays on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
