Coronation Street recently confirmed an explosive murder whodunnit for villain Joel Deering, played by Calum Lill, and fans think they’ve already cracked the case
Coronation Street recently confirmed an explosive murder whodunnit for villain Joel Deering, played by Calum Lill.
At first, the police thought Joel could have killed himself after he vanished from the cobbles after his evil crimes were exposed. However, on Monday night, there was a huge twist as it was revealed that Joel was dead and had been murdered, sparking an explosive police investigation with everyone a suspect.
Coronation Street has confirmed that over the coming weeks, a series of dramatic flashbacks will help viewers piece the puzzle together as the ITV soap revisits the night of September 27 when Joel went missing in one of the street’s biggest ever whodunnits.
As a number of Coronation Street favourites fall under suspicion, soap watchers will see the suspects highlighted on a crime wall photo. The first to be revealed this week are Ronnie Bailey, played by Vinta Morgan, who is uncle of Joel’s wronged fiancée Dee-Dee Bailey – played by Channique Sterling-Brown, and Mason, played by Luca Toolan, who is the bad boy bully who has seemingly been turning his life around in recent weeks.
On Wednesday night, viewers will watch the first climactic flashback as the ITV soap returns to that fateful night when Joel disappeared and watch events unfold. As the evidence mounts, viewers will see officer Kit Green, played by Jacob Roberts, pulled in all directions, while DS Lisa Swain, played by Vicky Myers, who was made to take a step back from the case, sets about her own inquiries.
As the plot thickens with many more twists and turns to come, who was really responsible for Joel’s death and how long will it take Kit and Lisa to catch the killer?
Soap watchers have already been speculating on the real murderer and think both Ronnie and Mason are just red herrings. Taking to social media, one person said: “Just had a revelation. I reckon Joel’s dad murdered him. Do you remember Joel telling Lauren how his Dad used to hurt him. Just a thought.”
To which a different account replied: “I said dad as well,” another viewer wrote: “I do too!” while another speculated: “…or his mum because he’s fallen off that pedestal and ruined her life?”
Elsewhere, another soap watcher put: “Well, it’s clear they didn’t kill Joel. I think it’ll be someone unexpected like Joel’s parents or his ex wife. #Corrie.”
A different account wrote: “I like this theory. Joel’s Dad turns out to be another Dodgy Deering. Dad pockets the £15,000 and decides to do away with his disappointing son at the same time !!! Like it !! #Corrie #WhoMurderedJoelDeering.”
While another added: “I think it’s Joel’s dad. They got into an argument. Joel confessed about doing something in the past. His dad fought with him in a fit of rage. #Corrie.”
Coronation Street continues on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV and ITV X.
