Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold ended the international break on a positive note with a goal for England
Manchester City star Jack Grealish has revealed that he bet Trent Alexander-Arnold £500 prior to his fourth England goal. The Liverpool defender doubled the Three Lions lead against Finland with a trademark free-kick in Helsinki.
The 25-year-old, playing in the unfamiliar role of left-back, moved level on international goals with Phil Foden as he notched one of his best for his country past Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky. Alexander-Arnold curled his free-kick over the wall and the 34-year-old couldn’t get a strong enough hand on it to keep it out.
Under the guidance of temporary England boss, Lee Carsley, Alexander-Arnold has enjoyed a more prominent role in the team, deputising at right-back prior to the 3-1 win over Finland – following a frustrating period under Gareth Southgate.

England bounced back from their shock 2-1 defeat to Greece on Thursday, which saw the Reds defender come in for criticism from Roy Keane. However, Grealish revealed that he had a wager with the Liverpool defender – which could have landed the Reds vice-captain £500.
“I said to him, as a joke obviously, ‘if you score this, I’ll give you 500 quid’ and he just slapped it top bin,” Grealish revealed. “I owe him, I think he’ll be saying that.”
The triumph moved the Three Lions level on points with Greece in UEFA Nations League B Group 2, however, it wasn’t enough to leapfrog them into top spot as they have an inferior goal difference.
For Alexander-Arnold, he will be preparing to return to Merseyside and reunite with Arne Slot, ahead of a hectic period in the league, Champions League and Carabao Cup. The 25-year-old will be among the early returnees with Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Curtis Jones all ending their international breaks early.
