The boys wanted to do something to help after hearing the hospice was under threat
Three schoolboys have raised over £300 for Zoe’s Place after hearing about all the children the charity has helped. Rocco Feeley, 13, Logan Shaw, 12, and Antony Hayes, 12, have spent the weekend standing outside their local shops collecting money to help save the hospice.
It started after Rocco’s mum, Martine Bradley, told him about the amazing work Zoe’s Place had done to help small children and after hearing it was to close it inspired the 13-year-old to do something to help.
The boys, who are from Norris Green, had already been collecting money for ‘Penny for the Guy,’ which is a British tradition that would usually see children ask for money to buy fireworks for Guy Fawkes Night. However, these savvy schoolboys decided to put their campaign to better use and try to help save Zoe’s Place.

Martine said: “I was telling Rocco how important it [Zoe’s Place] is. It’s local to us, we’re in Norris Green, they go to school basically next door to Zoe’s Place so we’re very aware of it and how they have helped so many people in our community.
“I’d heard on the radio about a lad who had been in Zoe’s Place when he was younger and when he was talking about it I just thought that is so sad that it’s shutting and that’s when I had it in my mind for them to do their fundraising for Zoe’s Place.”
Martine told the ECHO how the boy’s Penny for the Guy campaign had been going “really well,” so they drew up a poster to say they were now raising money for the hospice and on Friday night began collecting money. Martine said: “I told them the best day to start doing it would be Friday when everyone is going to the chippy and off licence when they finish work. So after school on Friday they set up and have made over £330 since then.
“People have been giving money into the pot and people have also been transferring money to me. I’m going to transfer it directly to the just giving page once they have finished the collection. They’ve had some really good donations, one person gave them £100.
The mum added: “They have done amazing, I just can’t believe it. Obviously they can only do it for so long and once we have counted it I’m going to send it straight to Zoe’s Place. Everyone keeps saying to me how polite and grateful they [the boys] have been when people have given them money, people saying they are lovely kids, it has made me so happy and proud.”
