Georgia’s baby boy has been the ‘talk of the town’
Midwives were in “disbelief” when a woman gave birth to a baby boy who was the “biggest baby they had seen in their career”. Georgia Lamey was originally told by doctors her newborn was likely to weigh no more than 10lbs. But when he was born at the Liverpool Women’s Hospital on July 19, he weighed a whopping 11lbs 11oz – the same weight as a medium-sized bowling ball.
The mum-of-three and the baby’s dad, Joe, were forced to put Jonah straight into outfits for three-month-old babies as newborn clothes were too small. Their first two children were “on the larger side”, both weighing around the 10lb mark, but everyone was shocked by Jonah’s enormous size when he was born.
Georgia, from Netherton, had been assured at every scan he was the “perfect weight” – not too big and not too small. Georgia said: “It was only at my 38-week appointment with the midwife when she looked at the chart and asked if I’d had big babies before. I think she was expecting another big baby, but nothing anywhere near how big Jonah was.”

The 25-year-old gave birth to Jonah six days after her due date at the Women’s Hospital. She was originally going to have a home birth, but when the midwife found her waters weren’t clear, she had to give birth in hospital.
Georgia, who gave birth to Jonah naturally, said: “Childbirth wasn’t as great as I thought it was going to be just because of how big he was. There was some intervention because he had shoulder dystocia, and he got a bit stuck.
“When he was born, no one could believe the size of him. When he was handed to me after I’d given birth, he was that heavy I had to give him to his dad. I couldn’t physically hold him any longer!
During their hospital stay, other midwives visited just to meet the 5.3kg baby. Georgia said: “I had lots of midwives telling me it was the biggest baby they’d seen in their career.
“The clothes we’d packed were so small on him, we couldn’t even button them up. We had to put him in age naught to three months. And he was only in that for two weeks. Now he’s in six to nine months and he’s 12 weeks old.”
She continued: “Towards the end, I felt like my belly was bulging, like he was just going to escape out of my bellybutton. It was so weird, it felt like he was pushing out of me.
“It’s crazy what your body is capable of,” she added. Jonah, who is now 12-weeks, has been mistaken for 8-months-old. Georgia added: “He’s been the talk of the town. When I first got home from the hospital, I had people knocking on the door wanting to see the baby.”
Georgia and Joe are waiting to find out if Jonah was the biggest baby born at the Women’s this year.
