The former Beatle is currently on his “Got Back” tour
Sir Paul McCartney brought a fan on stage after spotting a sign they were holding. During his soundcheck before his sold-out show at the Monumental Stadium, Santiago, the music icon helped a Chilean couple get engaged on stage on Friday, October 11.
Spotting Yamil Álamo and Leonora Pereira dressed as 1970s versions of Paul and Linda McCartney and holding a sign that read “Paul: Give us a handshake and we’ll get married”, the 82-year-old invited the couple up to the stage.
In front of the legendary performer, Yamil got down on one knee and proposed to his girlfriend of six years, Leonora. Yamil spoke about the moment and what it meant to the couple.

He said: “This was a very special moment for us because for many years we have tried to meet him and today is the day. I don’t have words to describe the experience.”
The couple, who are from the city of La Serena in Chile, 250 miles from Santiago, have previously travelled internationally to attend Paul McCartney’s concerts. They said they plan to tie the knot to the soundtrack of the McCartney classic “Maybe I’m Amazed”.
Sir Paul, who is currently on the South American leg of his “Got Back” tour, is set to perform in Brazil after his show in Santiago. The tour kicked off in Uruguay at the start of the month and saw the artist perform the last unfinished Beatles song “Now and Then” for the first time.
The song, released in November 2023, was created from a home demo of a ballad that John had recorded in 1977 but left unfinished. Surviving bandmates Sir Paul and Sir Ringo Starr finished the track using overdubs and guitar tracks from George Harrison, who died in 2001. They also used AI technology to separate the vocals from the home demo on the song.
Fans suspected it could be included on the setlist when Sir Paul was shown rehearsing the song in a newly released clip at the start of the month. A look on setlist.fm shows Sir Paul has played the song at his shows in Montevideo and Buenos Aires.
The iconic musician took to Instagram earlier this week to mark his wedding anniversary. The former Beatles star has been married to Nancy Shevell since 2011 and shared a special message with his 4.5m Instagram followers.
He shared a snap of the two alongside the caption: “Wishing a fabulous anniversary to my beautiful missus.” Followers took to the comments to wish the couple well on their special day. Tom Hanks’ wife, Rita Wilson said: “Happy happy anniversary love birds!”
Rusty said: “Happy Anniversary you two! Lots of love.” Katrice posted: “Happy Anniversary!” Fran commented: “Happy anniversary, Nancy and Paul.”
