Bank Holidays mean extra time off work and school for many people
With just three bank holidays left in 2024, many of us are looking ahead to 2025 and what dates those bank holidays will fall on. The dates on which bank holidays fall move from year to year, affected by weekends or because annual holidays such as Easter move to new dates.
Sadly, with no big national celebrations on the horizon, there are currently no plans for any extra bank holidays to be added to the eight days we’ll get in 2025. Currently the next bank holiday in England and Wales is Wednesday, December 25 (Christmas Day), with Boxing Day – Thursday, December 26 – also a bank holiday.
That makes the first bank holiday of 2025 New Year’s Day, Wednesday January 1. And while this year’s Easter bank holidays fell on March 29 and April 1, next year Easter will be a little later, with Good Friday being on Friday April 18, and Easter Monday falling on Monday, April 21.

May’s two bank holidays will fall on Monday, May 5 and Monday, May 26, while the summer bank holiday, which falls towards the end of the school summer holidays, will fall on Monday, August 25.
To round off the year, next year’s Christmas bank holidays will fall on Thursday, December 25 and Friday, December 26. Shrewd workers can plan ahead now to make the most of their annual leave by booking holidays around those dates to make their days off stretch further.
