The Cupertino-based firm has issued an urgent update to its popular iPhone devices. Here’s everything you need to know
Apple has issued an important update for iPhone users urging them to check the settings on their phone immediately. The technology giant recently released the iOS 18.0.1 update which includes a number of bug fixes along with patching some security issues on devices.
Apple said in its Software Update notes: “This update provides important bug fixes and security updates for your iPhone.” One of the bugs, which affects Audio messages in Messages, means the device is able to capture a few seconds of audio before the microphone indicator is activated. Whilst another worrying glitch – confirmed by Apple – might also mean a user’s saved passwords could be read aloud by the VoiceOver function.
Other fixes as part of the release include mending a bug that affects the touch screen on the new iPhone. 16 models along with addressing camera, messaging and performance issues.
Here are the key features of iOS 18.0.01
- Touch screen may be temporarily unresponsive in certain circumstances on iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models
- Camera may freeze when recording macro mode video on the Ultra Wide camera in 4K with HDR turned off on iPhone 16 Pro models
- Messages may unexpectedly quit when replying to a message with a shared Apple Watch face
- Performance may be impacted due to an issue with memory allocation on some iPhone models
To make sure your device is free from any of the problems above you simply need to head to the Settings menu and tap General – then Software Update. Here you should see the iOS 18.0.1 update which can be installed immediately or scheduled to be loaded overnight.
It’s around 500MB in size so make sure you have enough data if trying to download it on the move – otherwise it might be best to install when you have access to a broadband connection.
