Coronation Street: DS Swain puts her hand on Carla’s arm
Coronation Street fans are convinced they’ve rumbled a Joel Deering twist involving DS Lisa Swain. Soap watchers will recall that on Monday night, Dee-Dee Bailey, played by Channique Sterling-Brown, received an odd voice message from evil ex Joel, played by Calum Lill, with DS Swain, played by Vicky Myers, speculating it could be a suicide note
Joel was finally caught out in recent episodes with evidence proving his evil crimes, leaving him facing prison and fiancé Dee-Dee dumping him, calling off their wedding before receiving the odd message.
As the police investigated Joel’s disappearance and message, officer Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) revealed he had a lead on Joel and he managed to locate his last whereabouts, where they found his car parked next to a bridge with a folded note on the dashboard, with DS Swain fearing he could be dead and had taken his own life.

However, Dee-Dee was suspicious and didn’t believe the police’s theory as she headed to the crime scene herself. After asking Joel’s past victim, Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton), about the location image she had tracked of Joel, Dee-Dee investigated where she found a small car hidden in the woods.
Dee-Dee immediately told DS Swain, who assured her they would look into it. Later, while searching Joel’s flat, DS Swain and Kit discovered the notebook the evil solicitor used for his note, realising that it was all pre-planned. Later, as Dee-Dee continued to argue the case that Joel had clearly faked everything, Kit received a call where it was revealed that the car did belong to Joel with his DNA in the vehicle as well as a laptop under the seat.
On Wednesday night, Dee-Dee confided in Kit that she phoned the wedding venue and the holiday company, revealing that Joel had already recouped their deposits pointing out it was a strange thing to do if he was indeed planning his own death.
On Friday night, Dee-Dee headed to the police station, where she bumped into Joel’s dad Gus, who claimed the police had been fobbing him off. And things went from bad to worse when Dee-Dee suggested Joel could have gone on the run to which his father was left appalled at the claim, saying his son was suicidal and could be dead somewhere.
This prompted DS Swain to step in as she asked Dee-Dee to follow her into a private room, where the latter accused DS Swain of fobbing her off. Dee-Dee was quick to share her suspicions once again that Joel isn’t dead and even accused his father of going along with the plan. However, DS Swain was quick to tell the stressed character to just accept that Joel is dead.
Taking to Twitter, now X, viewers were quick to point out a DS Swain detail as one person said: “You think after the last time Swain had thought somebody was dead she might learnt something #Corrie”, a different account put: “If Swain believes Joel is dead then he is def alive #corrie” while another added: “Oh I see already presuming Joel is dead. Much like they did Lauren. Who they locking up for his death. #Corrie…”
Soap watchers will recall that DS Swain presumed Joel’s victim Lauren was dead earlier this year despite there being no body and Roy Cropper was wrongly arrested. Thankfully Roy was eventually released and Lauren showed up alive after going into hiding from Joel.
Coronation Street continues on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on both ITV and ITV X.
