The controversial 19 Crimes wine bottles feature glow-in-the-dark labels that are perfect for the spooky season
As Halloween draws near, one rebellious wine brand has unveiled limited-edition bottles perfect for autumn festivities.
19 Crimes has added a spooky twist to their bottles with glow-in-the-dark labels featuring eerie figures such as skeletons, mummies and the Grim Reaper. When the lights are switched off, these creepy characters glow green, adding a touch of spooky fun to Halloween celebrations.
The Australian wine company, known for its morbid backstory and eye-catching packaging featuring historical artists and scholars who were punished by transportation to Australia, is easily recognisable. The brand’s name, 19 Crimes, is inspired by the nineteen crimes that turned convicts into colonists who built Australia, and they’re known for doing things differently, reports the Mirror.

According to the winemaker, the limited-edition 19 Crimes Red Wine collection offers “rich, round flavours, a soft fruity finish, and notes of chocolate.” For those who enjoy the 30-day aged flavour of The Uprising, 19 Crimes promises “an intensely rich, jammy taste with hints of sweet mocha, caramel, and spice-an irresistible treat for the season.”

The multi-award winning wine, previously voted top choice in Wine List’s ‘The UK’s Favourite Wines’, offers a variety of affordable red, white, and rose wines all with a macabre backstory.
19 Crimes certainly knows how to captivate consumers with a blend of historical narrative and tech, as each bottle comes with an augmented reality experience. To uncover the stories behind the infamous faces, snap up a bottle, visit experience.19crimes.com and point your phone camera at your bottle to watch their stories come to life.
However, the brand doesn’t win everyone’s approval. TikTok’s wine connoisseur Luke Flunder hasn’t shied away from expressing his disregard, branding the 19 Crimes Cabinet Sauvignon as “liquidised candy floss, sugar bomb dross,” and the 19 Crimes Shard as “truly rancid.”
Yet, Flunder did tip his hat to the label’s success, conceding: “You have to respect a wine that is so popular.”
But does expert opinion really trump consumer sentiment? As per the Vivino website, the 19 Crimes Red Blend boasts more than 55,000 four-star reviews and a staggering 15,000 five-star ratings, with fans extolling it as “a great wine” thats both “a nice easy drinker” and “unbelievably good value.”
Prices for the limited-edition bottles are as follows:

- 19 Crimes Red Wine (Mummy) – £9.50, Tesco exclusive
