Officers used CCTV to find and arrest the suspect
Police were called after a man was seen walking in the street with a ‘meat cleaver.’ Officers were called to Ridyard Street in Wigan at around 9:51am on today, Thursday, October 3.
Using CCTV, Greater Manchester Police were able to quickly trace the suspect. He was arrested on suspicion of possessing a bladed article in public, reports the Manchester Evening News. Posting on X, a police spokesperson said: “At 9:51am on 03/10/2024, we received a report of a male with a meat cleaver on Ridyard Street, Wigan. Within five minutes, our teams, with help from Wigan Council CCTV, sighted, stopped, searched, and arrested him on suspicion of possessing a bladed article in public.”
