Liverpool have decided against making a move for Oumar Solet, who has agreed a deal to join Serie A side Udinese in the January transfer window
Liverpool have reportedly decided not to pursue Oumar Solet as a replacement for Joel Matip, with the 24-year-old instead set to join Udinese. Solet ended his contract at Red Bull Salzburg in the summer and had previously been linked with a move to the Reds.
The departure of Matip at the end of last season led to speculation that Arne Slot could bring a new centre-back to Anfield this summer. Matip himself joined the Reds on a free transfer back in 2016 after leaving Schalke.
He concluded his time at the club in the summer following a series of injuries that severely affected his final few campaigns at the club. Despite these injury problems, Matip played a crucial role in the highly successful Jurgen Klopp era, helping the Reds secure the Premier League, the Champions League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

They may have hoped to replicate this success with Solet, who showed promise at Salzburg. The defender won two consecutive Austrian Bundesliga and Austrian Cup doubles during his four years with the club.

However, according to the Mirror, Solet is nearing a move to Udinese, with an agreement already reached between the two parties. Reports further suggest that the Serie A club are finalising the last steps of the deal.
Saturday saw Ibrahima Konate score the opening goal against Wolves, but later he made a costly mistake allowing the visitors to equalise. Speaking to Match of the Day, Slot lamented: “The goal we conceded was definitely avoidable and it was unnecessary.
“It came at a bad time because we had total control over the game. By conceding this way, they came back into the game and the good thing for us, is we immediately scored to make it 2-1. With only one goal making the difference, it makes it a difficult game until the end.”
