Jamie Carragher has reignited his feud with Gary Neville in a fresh dig over his pre-season Liverpool and Manchester United predictions
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has taken aim at Gary Neville after the ex-Manchester United captains rant after their most-recent 3-0 drubbing. The Red Devils suffered a sobering defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur, leaving them in the bottom half of the Premier League.
Former Reds striker Dominic Solanke rounded off the scoring, succumbing United to a second successive three-goal home loss after Liverpool’s impressive win at Old Trafford last time out, with Brennan Johnson and Dejan Kulusevski on the scoresheet. Carragher wasted no time in poking fun at his Sky Sports counterpart following their third top-flight defeat of the season.
At the beginning of the season, Neville predicted that Arne Slot’s debut season as Liverpool head coach would see them fall out of the Champions League places – with United taking their place in the top four. A forecast that is looking unlikely at this stage of the campaign with the Reds top of the Premier League and a eight points clear of their North West rivals.

Replying to a clip of Neville expressing his concerns for United and Erik ten Hag, Carragher hit back: “You put them third at the start of the season!!”

The minute-long clip saw the former United defender ponder over Christian Eriksen’s comments about FC Twente displaying more hunger and desire in their midweek Europa League encounter. Neville said: “Are the players not buying into what Erik ten Hag is telling them to do or do they not believe in it?
“One thing I can say is their application towards doing it was abysmal, the most worrying thing was – and maybe I wasn’t paying attention to it on Wednesday – from [Christian] Eriksen that FC Twente wanted it more, they were more hungry.
“That is a player who is in the middle of that dressing room, very well respected by the players and manager, he’s played 100s and 100s of football matches and he’s questioning the motivation and the attitude of the players.
“I’d ignore everything post-match today and go back three days to that because what’s come to the fore is what he’s seeing day in, day out in training emanates on the weekend.
“We’ve seen it here today, they didn’t put the effort in in that first-half. In the past when Manchester United haven’t been in this position where a manager has been under pressure, the players sometimes have felt the strain and look drained, lacking belief and it looks like they’re not working hard.
“I don’t believe that players go out on to the pitch and don’t play well, I’m torn today as to why Eriksen said that about his teammates that they’re not hungry enough – because that out there supports it.”
