Coronation Street fan-favourite Carla Connor looks set to be embarking on a new romance with new friend DS Swain as the pair have started growing closer over the past few months.
Coronation Street: DS Swain puts her hand on Carla’s arm
Coronation Street’s Carla Connor, played by Alison King, could be on the brink of a new romance with DS Lisa Swain, months after Peter Barlow’s departure from the cobbles.
Peter, a taxi driver, left Weatherfield to travel the world, leaving his marriage to Underworld factory boss Carla in limbo.
Since then, Carla has met DS Lisa Swain (played by Vicky Myers), who has been working tirelessly to bring Lauren Bolton’s attacker and abuser Joel Deering to justice.
The spark between the two women has not gone unnoticed by ITV viewers, many of whom are hoping for a blossoming romance.
With Carla due in court for ABH next week, she receives shocking news from her husband abroad as Lisa steps in to comfort her, leading to a tender moment that leaves Carla questioning her feelings.

But when a seemingly innocent touch sparks something more, Carla is left wondering what just happened and whether Lisa feels the same way, reports the Mirror.
Coronation Street’s Alison King has opened up about her character Carla Connor’s evolving bond with on-screen pal Lisa Swain.
She said: “I think Carla’s still in shock and she’s very much in the moment. There is a real friendship growing between them and the fact that she’s come around to check on her really means something to Carla.”
Betsy Swain, played by Sydney Martin, Lisa’s daughter, is also playing her part in their growing connection, having been taken under Carla’s wing at the Underworld factory.
Alison reflects: “I think because she’s taken Betsy on, there’s kind of kindred spirit forming. We’ve seen Lisa have a bad day and Carla being a shoulder to lean on.”
Discussing the complex layers of their relationship, Alison explained: “She’s got a lot of understanding about how difficult Betsy is, she’s just come out of a relationship herself so she understands some of the loss Lisa is feeling after Becky.
“It’s been a long time since Carla has had a female friend, somebody who’s actually leaning on her but is also a powerhouse in her own right. Now Lisa is there for her, she’s leaning on Lisa for the first time and it’s becoming quite a confusing friendship.”
Carla seems to be increasingly perplexed by their closeness, as Alison highlighted Lisa keeps appearing in her character’s life due to their link through Betsy.
The soap star confessed the growing bond that’s developing between them is something Carla can’t quite define.
Alison added: “I think every step of this friendship is taking her by surprise. The closeness between them for Carla comes from concern yet at times she can’t really put her finger on what this is.”
But will their connection grow into something more substantial?
While it’s still uncertain, Coronation Street has yet to introduce a lesbian couple that could rival the popularity of Kate Connor and Rana Habeeb. The pair were set to wed before a tragic roof collapse at the Underworld factory resulted in Rana’s death in March 2019.
Coronation Street continues Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV fro 8pm.
