It comes not long after a meteor shower was seen over the region
The moment a “fireball” flew across Merseyside was captured in photos. Merseyside saw meteor showers last month, with the Perseid Meteor Shower taking place on August 12.
The Perseid Meteor Shower happens every year when Earth passes through trials of debris from comets or asteroids. When the debris hits the atmosphere, bright streaks of light can be seen in the sky.
While meteors can be seen every night, more are visible during this particular shower due to better visibility. Scientists predicted people would be able to see as many as 100 meteors an hour during the shower earlier this year. But it was one Merseyside woman who managed to capture a “fireball” racing across the night sky over Moreton.

Sharing the photos of the meteor flashing across Merseyside, Anna Ridyard said: “I recently saw a story in the Echo regarding a recent sighting of a possible Meteor in Wallasey. I live in Moreton and I have very detailed photographs of a huge Meteor I spotted resembling a fireball a couple of weeks back.”

The photos were taken on August 30, and have been shared after the ECHO published a story of a man who photographed a mysterious flying object over Wirral. The photo, not as clear as Ms Ridyard’s, shows a streak in the sky, with the photographer James Lea telling the ECHO: “First there was a bright spot high in the distance on the horizon. It reminded me of a similar sight I’d seen years before, which was a meteor travelling towards me, bright white and getting bigger – it burnt out as they do.
“This was similar and I watched it thinking: ‘What’s going on?’ Then it changed its tail, it was unusually erratic, not straight or uniform as seen in the pictures. It seemed to change directions from downward to gaining height again, something like a rocket out of control.”
